  • Can Small-Molecule Peptides Really Reduce Wrinkles? Dec 13, 2024
Small-molecule peptides have become a trending ingredient in skincare, often touted for their anti-aging benefits. But do they truly live up to the hype when it comes to reducing wrinkles? Let’s explore the science behind their effectiveness.   What Are Small-Molecule Peptides?   Small-molecule peptides are short chains of 2–10 amino acids with low molecular weight, making them easy to absorb through the skin. Once they penetrate the skin barrier, they act directly on the dermis. Common types include tetrapeptides, hexapeptides, and copper peptides, known for stimulating collagen production, enhancing skin elasticity, and providing antioxidant protection.   How Do They Work Against Wrinkles?   1.Stimulating Collagen Production Collagen loss is a key factor in wrinkle formation. Small-molecule peptides activate fibroblasts, boosting collagen synthesis to improve skin firmness and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.   2.Antioxidant Protection Free radicals can damage skin cells and accelerate aging. Small-molecule peptides have antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress from UV exposure and pollution.   3.Relaxing Facial Muscles Some peptides, like hexapeptides, block nerve signals to relax facial muscles, effectively softening expression lines such as crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.   Is There Scientific Evidence?   Studies show that consistent use of peptide-infused skincare products can visibly improve skin elasticity and smoothness within weeks. For instance, 0.1% tetrapeptide-1(0.1mg/mL DropPet® TR-1P) has a collagen-promoting effect, which has been found to significantly reduce crow’s feet and nasolabial folds. However, the effectiveness depends on factors like peptide concentration, formulation, and absorption. Poorly designed products may fail to deliver the desired results.     How to Choose Skincare with Small-Molecule Peptides?   1.Check the Ingredients: Look for clearly labeled peptides like tetrapeptides, hexapeptides, or copper peptides.   2.Prioritize Concentration: Higher peptide concentrations typically yield better results.   3.Be Consistent: Long-term use, combined with good skincare habits like sun protection and hydration, enhances effectiveness.   Conclusion   Small-molecule peptides show promising results in reducing wrinkles, particularly by stimulating collagen production and combating oxidative stress. While they’re not a “magic cure,” they are a valuable tool for slowing down the signs of aging. With the right product and consistent use, small-molecule peptides could become your go-to ally in the fight against wrinkles.     Your skin is in a race against time—small-molecule peptides might just be the secret to staying ahead!   If you are interested in our products and want to know more details, please contact judyzhou@drop-bio.com.
  • Why Choose Natural Substances as Surfactants? Dec 06, 2024
Surfactants, classified under the “catalysts and various auxiliaries” branch of the fine chemicals industry, are an indispensable part of modern production. Often referred to as the “MSG of the industrial world,” they find applications across virtually all fine chemical sectors, including industrial processes, agriculture, personal care, and new material development.   In recent years, personal care and cleaning products have become two of the most significant global consumer markets. Surfactants are key ingredients in these products and are among the substances that come into frequent contact with the skin. Depending on their hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value, surfactants can serve multiple functions, such as cleaning, foaming, emulsifying, wetting, dispersing, and solubilizing.   However, many widely used surfactants, such as alkyl sulfonates and alkyl sulfates, are directly applied to the skin in rinse-off personal care products like shampoos and body washes. These compounds may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions, raising concerns about their safety.   Sophorolipids: A Safer, Eco-Friendly Alternative     Sophorolipids, a class of glycolipid biosurfactants produced by yeast fermentation, have gained attention for their unique properties. They are non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly, making them one of the most promising natural surfactants with significant market potential.   Sophorolipids provide multiple benefits, including:   Functional Advantages: Effective at dispersing, wetting, retaining moisture, lubricating, and emulsifying. Mild surfactant properties suitable for sensitive applications. Gentle antibacterial effects, efficiently inhibiting Propionibacterium acnes and Lactobacillus. • Can Mandelic Acid Regulate Oil Secretion? Nov 14, 2024
Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) with a relatively large molecular structure, which means it penetrates the skin more slowly and is therefore considered gentler compared to other acids. Due to its lipophilic nature, mandelic acid is particularly suitable for oily and acne-prone skin. Its oil-regulating effects include the following: 1. Dissolving Oil in Pores: Mandelic acid can penetrate deep into the pores to help dissolve excess sebum, clearing out debris that clogs pores and reducing the formation of blackheads and acne. 2. Regulating Oil Secretion: By removing excess oil from the pores, mandelic acid gradually helps balance oil secretion, leaving the skin less shiny and with a fresher appearance. 3. Gentle Exfoliation: As a mild AHA, mandelic acid promotes the shedding of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother and more radiant. This gentle exfoliation helps prevent clogged pores caused by excess buildup.   In addition, mandelic acid has antibacterial and skin-brightening properties, making it suitable for regular use. When using mandelic acid, it’s recommended to introduce it gradually and always pair it with good sun protection to achieve optimal skincare benefits.
  • Is HPR(Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate) Retinol really mild and not irritating? Oct 27, 2024
Retinoids are substances that are similar in structure and function to retinol, including: Drugs such as retinoic acid (RA), isotretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, etc.; Retinol (retinol), retinaldehyde, retinyl palmitate, retinyl propionate, retinyl retinoate, and now the up-and-coming hydroxypinazone retinoate (HPR), among others. These substances can be converted into each other, so that there is a transformation pathway: After the body absorbs retinol, if it can't consume it, it converts it into retinyl palmitate and stores it, and when needed, hydrolyzes the palmitate bond with esterase (the red position in the retinol ester structure diagram on the right is broken), and retinol is released.Retinol is stripped of a hydrogen atom and oxidized to become retinaldehyde, which is an intermediate state. Retinaldehyde is further oxidized, adding an oxygen atom that becomes retinoic acid.Retinoic acid (tretinoin/retinoid) is the actual form of retinoid that enters the nucleus to bind to trans-retinoin reaction elements (RAR/RXR) and initiates the corresponding gene expression. It not only retains the efficacy group of tretinoin, but can directly bind to the receptor; It also covers the irritating groups and improves the physical and chemical stability. Cosmetics containing HPR (Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate)  can be used even on VA-sensitive skin, but note that pregnant women should not use them!
  • Does the dihydroxyacetone really work for self-tanning Jul 22, 2024
A quick and easy way to get a healthy wheat-skin tone is to apply a tanning product. When selecting a tanning product, people tend to choose different products based on the degree of color they want to achieve. In fact, the main efficacy substance of most products is dihydroxyacetone(DHA). The dosage of dihydroxyacetone(DHA) added determines the final degree of coloration of the product on the skin. So what's the mechanism of dihydroxyacetone discoloration on the skin? Dihydroxyacetone and proteins in the skin undergo a Malanin reaction, turning the cuticle proteins brown. The specific reaction principle is as follows: Dihydroxyacetone(DHA) does not damage the skin, and is considered a safe skin coloring agent. The color is not removed by simple washing, swimming, or natural perspiration, but it only lasts for 5 to 7 days, as skin cells are continuously being shed. Exfoliation, tape stripping, prolonged water submersion, or heavy sweating can lighten the tan, as these all contribute to rapid dead skin cell pealing. Today, dihydroxyacetone(DHA) is the main active ingredient in virtually all sunless tanning skincare preparations. The above pictures were taken from some subjects in a clinical experiment of DropBio. The coloring was recorded after 3 consecutive times (once a day) of using Instant Tanning Mousse with 10% DropBio@ DHA, and the subsequent fading was continuously recorded. So Dihydroxyacetone(DHA) is a very effective ingredient for self-tanning.
  • Is ceramide a safe product? Jul 22, 2024
As we all know, ceramide is a lipid that is similar in structure to the substance that makes up the cuticle of the skin, so it can quickly penetrate the skin and maintain the renewal of the skin's natural protective layer, maintain the balance of natural hydration. When combined with the moisture in the cuticle, it can form a net-like structure to firmly lock the moisture. Ceramide is an important skin-activating ingredient in the cuticle that strengthens the skin barrier, rebuilds cells, and reduces the effects of the external environment by forming effective skin surface barriers.      When Ceramide is added to the damaged skin, the composition of the lipids between the cells is improved and the cells on the surface of the skin become compact and regular again. While the moisture inside the skin is locked in, the outside irritation and bacteria can no longer penetrate the skin's surface, effectively reducing sensitivity and acne formation, so Ceramide is a safe, natural and highly effective skin care ingredient.

  • What Impact Does Glycation Have on Your Skin? Jan 10, 2025
What is Glycation and How Does It Affect the Skin?   Glycation is a biochemical reaction where sugars, such as glucose, bind to proteins or lipids, resulting in the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). In the skin, this process is most commonly associated with the Maillard Reaction, in which sugars attach to collagen fibers, producing yellow-brown AGEs. These compounds cause the skin to appear dull and sallow while compromising the structure of collagen, leading to a loss of elasticity, fine lines, and sagging. Additionally, glycation exacerbates oxidative stress and weakens the skin’s barrier function, contributing to long-term skin damage and accelerated aging.   The Anti-Glycation and Skin Benefits of Carnosine   Carnosine, a naturally occurring dipeptide, is renowned for its powerful anti-glycation properties. It effectively competes with proteins to bind with sugar molecules, thereby reducing the formation of AGEs. Beyond its anti-glycation effects, carnosine is a potent antioxidant capable of neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation byproducts, mitigating oxidative stress and protecting skin cells. Additionally, carnosine chelates metal ions, further inhibiting AGE formation and preserving the integrity of collagen and elastin fibers. These multifaceted properties make carnosine a remarkable skincare ingredient, offering anti-glycation, antioxidant, and skin-repairing benefits to restore radiance and elasticity to the skin.   The Powerful Benefits of DropPet® Crystal   DropPet® Crystal is a cutting-edge skincare solution featuring two highly active peptides: Nonapeptide-1 and Decarboxy Carnosine HCl.
